I spend a lot of time listening to podcasts. I only have so many favorite shows, but a single episode can last 2-3 hours.
Music goes great with running, but unless you have a lengthy playlist, you’re going to have to get your phone out to change songs. If you’re doing a long run, listen to a good motivational podcast.
Here’s a list of my favorite podcasts to listen to while running.
Joe Rogan Experience
The Joe Rogan Experience is one of the most popular podcasts of all time, and it’s the reason I got into podcasts in the first place!
If you’re not familiar, Joe Rogan is a standup comedian that started podcasting way before podcasts became mainstream. He started out sharing conversations with other comedians, but over the years he’s talked with some of the world’s most influential people. Bernie Sanders and Elon Musk are two examples.
Here’s one of my favorite episodes with Courtney Dauwalter, an ultramarathoner.
Armchair Expert
Dax Shepard has only been podcasting for the last couple of years, but Armchair Expert has quickly reached the top of the charts. Dax and Monica Padman chat with stars in entertainment and pop culture. Listening to the success stories of celebrities is great running inspiration.
The Tim Ferriss Show
Tim Ferriss is a well known entrepreneur, author, and podcaster. I’ve listened to the Tim Ferriss Show for years, and I learn something new from every episode.
What I love about the show is it’s not only motivational, his guests offer tactical advice to improve your own life. The show offers success strategies in business and mindfulness.
Jocko Podcast
If you need an extra push to get out and run, Jocko Willink will get you going. Jocko is a retired Navy SEAL that has made a career speaking on leadership. He stresses taking ownership of your own life. It’s hard to convince yourself out of a workout when you’re listening to some of the stories of decorated veterans on the Jocko Podcast.
I also recommend following Jocko Willink on Instagram. He posts photos of his early morning workouts, mostly of his sweaty wrist with his watch showing the time of day (usually before 5am). If you think you have an excuse, think again.
