There are plenty of great running routes in the Big D, but the Katy Trail in Dallas is by far the most famous. Originally a railroad track, the Katy Trail was transformed into an urban green belt loved by Dallasites. The trail is used by runners, cyclers, and dog-walkers alike. Let’s go run the most lively running trail in Dallas!
Directions
- Start at the south end of the Katy Trail near AAC
- Head north on the trail for 2.7 miles
- End at Knox St
The Run
Start at the south end of the Katy Trail across from the American Airlines Center. Look out for the trail map and kiosk area.
Start moving north. For 2.7 miles, you’ll run through Dallas’ Uptown neighborhood, and you’ll pass lots of foot traffic. There are many locals living near or even on the trail, and it’s very busy after work and on the weekends.
The trail is also known for the many pedestrians walking (and running) with their canine companion, therefore making it a great route for dog-lovers. You might even get to see one of these pups on your run.
The trail is 3.5 miles in total, but I suggest stopping before you hit Mile 3. There is not much to see after passing the Knox-Henderson neighborhood. Finish your run at Knox St, and check out the many shops and restaurants in Knox-Henderson.
You can also run further back the other way. Run another 2 miles in the other direction to make a total of 5 miles, where you’ll finish right in front of the Katy Trail Ice House. The Ice House sits right on the trail making it a perfect spot for having a burger and beer while people watching.
